Season 2008 Game 6: Pirates

To add to Andy’s top effort on the mound last week, we noticed he was limping around a little after the game (BIG WOOSE) only to find out he had a slight fracture from a shot from Adrian during batting practice prior to the game. According to all reports he may be OK this week if ADRIAN LEAVES HIM ALONE !

Another tough week at the office saw us slip off the pace a little as the wet conditions and a slippery ball made simple plays difficult. As a result we had another brief moment/innings that allowed the Pirates to gain the ascendancy. Following a number of fielding changes and a good rally with the bat we managed to claw our way to an 11 – 10 lead halfway through the game.

Unfortunately we could not duplicate the hitting in the second half of the game and the final score finished up 19 – 14 win to the Pirates.

Defence

Once again mental lapses cost us dearly as communication and the skill levels of our new-found team were again lacking.

Best Players: Frizz at Left Field closely followed by Stew and Al on the mound.

Plays of the Day

Frizz’s two great catches in left field where he covered an acre to take each catch – unfortunately they were out of play. Great effort though.

The Merry-Go-Round. The infield chasing the runners around the bases with the ball. Remember the lesson here guys “KEEP THE BALL IN FRONT OF THE RUNNERS OR GET THE BALL INTO THE MIDDLE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE”.

Offence

Our base running was a huge improvement and it is good to see all of us becoming familiar with signals as this will become an important part of our game throughout the second half of the season.

Batting

A total of 16 Hits with 10 and 2 BB coming in the 3rd should have set up the win in the following innings. Unfortunately we did not capitalise and bat on throughout the game.

Best Batting:

All batting 1000 for the day:

  • Brett 1 for 1 + BB
  • Adrian 2 for 2
  • Brad 3 for 3
  • Shane 3 for 3
  • John 2 for 2

Alan, Clint, & Jarren batted 500 with a double each. A clear indication we are beginning to show signs of our early batting form again.

WE DO IT ONE INNINGS; WE CAN DO IT THROUGHOUT THE GAME. EACH OF US NEED TO CONCENTRATE WHEN IN THE BATTING BOX AND SELECT GOOD HITTING PITCHES FOR THE ENTIRE GAME.
